Concept

This project is focused on modeling the formation of coronary artery disease and resultant myocardial infarction. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the US, so it is an important topic to understand. The creation of an in silico model of CAD would be invaluable to investigators in the creationof new treatment modalities.

Who's interested (add your name!)

Kathryn Cooper - My master's thesis involved modelling lipoprotein and cholesterol concentrations, not at this level though.

Questions to answer

  • Can we create a model of blood flow in coronary arteries?
  • Can we create a model atherosclerotic plaque formation and rupture?
  • What are the effects of genotype on atherosclerotic plaque formation and rupture?
  • What are the effects of pharmocologic agents on atherosclerotic plaque formation and rupture?
  • What are the effects of environment on atherosclerotic plaque formation and rupture?
