JOB SUMMARY
This position supports the daily editorial, production, and administrative operations of the SFI Press. We are a small and highly collaborative, cross-trained team dedicated to supporting the work of SFI’s community of researchers.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide editorial support, e.g.,
Proofreading
Copyediting, as needed
Reviewing and correcting transcripts
Reviewing and correcting OCR scanned text
• Assist with production, e.g.,
Adding content to layout in InDesign or Overleaf (LaTeX)
Inputting author and copyeditor changes
Converting print files to ebook following an already-established process
Cleaning up/recreating figures, as needed
Compiling and/or tidying bibliographic files for consistency within and across volumes
Creating/identifying volume artwork in collaboration with the Press team
• Drive special projects as determined by SFI Press manager, e.g.,
Tracking royalties for historical and current SFI publications
Working with SFI Archivist to catalogue SFI Press and historical publication records
• Assist with marketing efforts, e.g.,
Working with the SFI Communications team on Press-related ventures
Participating in occasional events, such as the InterPlanetary Festival, November Symposium, and Winter Tea
• Provide administrative support, working closely with SFI Press manager and team to maintain SFI Press systems, e.g.,
Maintaining book sales, expenses, addresses, volume statuses, and other data in Airtable
Reviewing and periodically updating files and notes in Notion and Box
Assisting with tracking contracts, payments, manuscripts, etc2
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
• Required:
College degree with significant coursework in mathematics and science
Proficiency with LaTeX (familiarity with Overleaf a bonus)
Familiarity with coding (e.g., HTML, R, and/or Python)
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines
Must be detail-oriented and a team player
• Preferred:
Proficiency in InDesign, Illustrator, Microsoft Word, Dreamweaver
Experience with data visualization
