Sizing the Clean Economy: A Discussion of Recent and Planned Work from the Brookings Institution's Metropolitan Policy Program

Collins Conference Room
Seminar
12:15 pm – 1:15 pm  US Mountain Time
August 11, 2011

This event is closed to the public.

Jonathan Rothwell (The Brookings Institution)

Abstract.  With the U.S. economy stagnating during what needs to be a recovery period, many have wondered where growth will come from. One area of hope is the clean economy, and yet for all the excitement and debate it generates, little has been known about its size, growth, and region concentrations. A recent project from the Brookings Metropolitan Policy Program creates a national green jobs census, including detailed information on the where the jobs are, what characteristics they have, and in what segments they are growing. This presentation will summarize this research effort, as well as introduce the audience to recent and on-going work at the Metropolitan Policy Program on topics such as exports, innovation, and human capital.
