Unearthing Fermi’s Geophysics

Abstract:  Enrico Fermi was known for being the only 20th century physicist to have reached the very top of the discipline as both a theorist and an experimentalist. He was also known for the wide range of his interests and  for being an extraordinarily clear teacher. This seminar will largely deal with a forgotten course on geophysics Fermi taught at Columbia University in 1941 and for its present relevance.
