The Santa Fe Institute again has ranked among the world's top science and technology and transdisciplinary think tanks.

The 2018 Global Think Tank Report, just released by the Think Tank & Civil Societies Program of the Lauder Institute at the University of Pennsylvania, places SFI #25 among the world's “Top Science and Technology Think Tanks” and #25 among the world's “Best Transdisciplinary Research Think Tanks.”

More than 8,162 think tanks and civil society organizations around the world were considered by independent scholars, journalists, government officials, former think tank directors, and private and public donors who participated in the nomination and ranking process.

Although SFI is technically an interdisciplinary research center that has "in general avoided becoming involved in matters of policy," the Institute is honored to be recognized for its transdisciplinary and scientific excellence.

Launched in 2006, the Global Think Tank Report is considered an authoritative source of information about the leading public policy research organizations around the world. The ranking process grew out of requests from donors and journalists to understand and recognize the contributions these organizations play in governments and civil societies around the world. The report includes a summary of the major trends and issues think tanks face, identified through surveys and interviews with their staffs.
