SFI Science Board member and External Professor Stephanie Forrest has been named a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for 2015.
Forrest “was selected for her contributions to computer security systems based on biological principles.” The elevation of an IEEE member to fellowship recognizes that scientist’s “extraordinary record of accomplishments,” and the number of fellows selected in any one year represents less than one-tenth of one percent of the IEEE voting membership.
Forrest has made pioneering contributions to the SFI Adaptive Computation program. A professor of computer science at the University of New Mexico, she studies adaptive systems including genetic algorithms, computational immunology, biological modeling, and computer security.
