As an anthropological archaeologist, my research analyzes cross-cultural, region-scale data on past human activities and settlement systems to explore how new forms of social organization emerge. At SFI, I am working with Jerry Sabloff on the "Universal Patterns in the Emergence of Complex Societies" component of the "Principles of Complexity" Templeton initiative. My primary fieldwork has been in Syria and Turkey; I have additional research interests in the methodology of archaeological survey, integration of archaeological data with formal models, and the application of mutli-spectral imagery to archaeological and anthropological questions.
